crystal doesn't really do tree views with expanding and collapsing nodes. it does drill-down instead.
please have a look at the attached report where the end user can drill down using a chart or the data below. note that the parent data is still visible, but only for the current group that you've drilled down to. you can use hyperlinks to go back up to the main level or up a single level etc., but that only works in the dhtml / web viewers.

to look at the report, unzip the contents and change the .txt extension to .rpt.
